The 2016 ESPN High School Seminar will be held at Mainland High School in Daytona Beach on the morning of Friday, September 2. ESPN’s Jay Harris will moderate a panel comprised of five sports industry professionals, who will offer career insight and words of wisdom to approximately 400 students in attendance. The 2016 panelists are:
Clinton Yates – Senior Writer at ESPN’s The Undefeated
Pegjohngy Moses – Associate AD for Student Services at Stetson University
Justin White – Director of Sports Medicine at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
Gloria Molina – Manager of Multicultural Affairs at NASCAR
Rob Starkman – Founder and CEO of Rock ‘Em Apparel
The 2016 Welcome Reception will be held at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, September 3. Hosted by ESPN’s Tiffany Greene, the event will highlight the successes of both the Alcorn State Braves and Bethune-Cookman Wildcats. ESPN SportsCenter anchor Jay Harris will deliver the keynote speech, offering words of advice to all of the student-athletes in attendance. In addition, the six Walter Payton Achievement Award nominees will be honored, culminating with the announcement of the winners. Jarrett Payton, Walter Payton’s brother, will be on hand to present the award.
Are you ready for some music? Alcorn State’s Sounds of Dyn-O-mite and the PRIDE of Bethune-Cookman University will perform at the Daytona Beach Bandshell on Saturday, September 3 at 2 PM. In addition, the head coaches and three players from each team will be on hand and address the crowd.
The Bandshell is located right next to the Daytona Beach Hilton and near the boardwalk. Parking is available at the Ocean Center garage, located directly across the street from the Bandshell and Ocean Walk Village. Chairs will be available to rent from the City of Daytona Beach. You may also bring your own chairs.
Stay in your seat following the conclusion of the game for the 5th Quarter Battle of the Bands. Alcorn State’s “Sounds of Dyn-O-mite” and the “PRIDE” of Bethune-Cookman University will have opportunity to shine and show attendees that the beat goes on even while players are off the field.
Both bands will also play for 7 minutes apiece at halftime.
The Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl Trophy Tour Presented by Coca-Cola will make it’s second stop at the MEAC/SWAC Challenge. Fans will have an opportunity to take pictures with the trophy before the game outside the home entrance gate of Municipal Stadium.
The 2016 Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl will match the MEAC and SWAC Champions and take place on December 17 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. North Carolina A&T was the inaugural champion in 2015.
The Battle by the Beach Kickoff will serve as an informal welcome celebration to the 12th annual MEAC/SWAC Challenge. The Alcorn State and Bethune-Cookman football teams will enjoy a night of food and friendly competition beach-side behind the Daytona Beach Hilton. Be sure to stop by and see our sand sculpture! The event will run from 6-8 PM on Friday, September 2.
What we’ve all been waiting for – the Battle by the Beach! The game will feature defending SWAC champion Alcorn State vs. returning MEAC champion Bethune-Cookman. B-CU comes in ranked #2 in the BOXTOROW HBCU poll, while Alcorn State is close behind at #3.
Kickoff will be at 1 PM.
